Sunshine Mills Statement
December 21, 2018
At Sunshine Mills, our goal for nearly sixty years has always been to produce high quality, safe, and affordable pet foods. In recent weeks, we discovered that a limited number of products made at our Tupelo, Mississippi facility prior to November 2018 were impacted by a supply chain issue. A long-time supplier of vitamins and nutrients began shipping a Vitamin D supplement of a far greater concentration than that which we had historically used or would ever intend to use in our products. Unfortunately, the inclusion of this much higher concentrated Vitamin D supplement resulted in elevated levels of Vitamin D in certain products. On November 27, 2018, Sunshine Mills made the decision to issue a voluntary recall of the following products due to potentially elevated levels of Vitamin D and the possibility of health concerns if such products were consumed over an extended period of time.
All of the above products subject to the voluntary recall have best-by date codes of November 1, 2018, through November 8, 2019. There are no other Evolve®, Sportsman’s Pride® or Triumph® products affected by this recall.
In the process of further evaluating the safety of our products in cooperation with the Food & Drug Administration, we have determined that an additional product may contain a level of Vitamin D in excess of the maximum threshold established by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). While the levels detected in this additional product do not present a risk of serious adverse health consequences or death, we have elected to remove the specific lot codes of the following product from retail stores:
TC3 29 October 2018 TA1 30 October 2018 TA2 30 October 2018
TC1 30 October 2018 TC2 30 October 2018 TC3 30 October 2018
Consumers holding this product with the above lot codes should discard the food and mail the cut out of the lot code to the address on the back of the bag for a full refund. There are no other Old Glory® products affected by this recall.
We have taken additional measures and corrected processes to prevent the possibility of elevated levels of Vitamin D in our products. We will continue these efforts as a part of our total commitment to provide quality pet food products to our customers and their pets. We value our customers and their loyalty and we regret any issues this may have caused to our industry, our retailers, and our consumers. We will provide additional information as necessary.
